St. Nicholas Abbey is one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions remaining in the Western Hemisphere, dating back to 1658. This beautifully preserved plantation house offers a fascinating glimpse into Barbados' colonial history, complete with original furnishings, family portraits, and a remarkable collection of artifacts. The estate also operates a working rum distillery where visitors can sample award-winning rum produced using traditional methods. The heritage railway takes guests on a scenic journey through the lush tropical grounds, ending at a viewing platform with panoramic views of the east coast. The on-site cafe serves light refreshments and afternoon tea.
